| Owner of Fairytales Bookstore & More |
Originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, Tammy Derr moved to Nashville
in 1998 "searching for Tennessee's beauty." After only two weeks in Nashville, Tammy met her future husband
and business partner, John Derr. Three wonderful children followed.
After 15 years as one of Nashville's salon stylists, Tammy decided
to embark on her dream of opening "Fairytales", a concept inspired
by her first child, Katie. Tammy's lifelong experience as an entrepreneur encouraged her to listen to her instincts and open East Nashville's
first independant children's bookstore.
"My goal is to create a safe space where children are free to express themselves through all
mediums of art. I also want to provide a unique space for adults to relax and rejuvenate. I feel that East Nashville
is the perfect place for "Fairytales" and the community support has proved it! -Tammy Derr
Tammy and her employees, Melissa
and Shantel, share a life-long love of children's books, including authors such as Beverly Clearly, Judy Blume,
Tamora Pierce, Shel Silverstein amony many, many others.

Melissa Williams is
an outstanding addition to the Fairytales staff! Melissa received her Bachelor's of Arts from MTSU and then finished
her Master's of Fine Arts at the University of Exeter in England. For the past 5 years, Melissa worked as a professional
stage manager on the road and locally at theatres including the Tennessee Repertory Theatre and the Nashville Children's Theatre.
Now joining Fairytales, children will have the opportunity to work with Melissa, hands-on, and have
the unique opportunity to play and learn through the works of theatre. "I have always loved the idea of
finding a way to get children excited about reading! Fairytales is such a unique experience because it encourages a
child's input and expression, and is a space where they are given the confidence to learn through many artistic mediums."
-Melissa Melissa's second greatest passion, outside of theatre, is reading. She
is thrilled to live in East Nashville and work in an atmosphere that encourages artistic freedom for all children. She
lives with her husband, Sean, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a fish.
